Modern International School is just that, Modern. We take a new and fresh approach to teaching your children. We understand that each child is an individual and has his or her own special needs. We focus at a young age, not only on the basic foundation of the English language, but also give each student the building blocks to become a first class student.
We use the world around us to help devise a curriculum that not only teaches the English language, but includes Geography, Science, Math, Literature, Health, and more. Your child gets exposed to different cultures, and various aspects from around our ever changing planet, all in a relaxed yet, disciplined atmosphere.
For the parents of our students, we give you a standard which you can depend on with consistency. We understand that you’ve worked hard for your income and want to spend it on the future of your child. We are committed to you to insure that your children are well looked after and are working towards their hard earned certificate. We have only a few general rules which are strictly enforced to instill a discipline that can be carried on throughout their lives. We provide small classrooms and limits to the amount of children per classroom, so as to insure a better interpersonal communication between teacher and student. We also maintain that from grade two and up all English teachers will come from an English (as a first language) speaking country.
At M.I.S. we believe that people are the greatest resource. We focus our attention on what is in the best interest of the student and parents. Our high standards in this area have given us proven results, with not only an ever increasing enrollment, but also a low turnover rate with both our students and faculty staff. We encourage our parents to take a vested interest their children’s school work, with an open door policy to talk face to face with the director or a specific teacher.
In September of 2007 we expanded to a newer, larger school and opened a daily Khmer school. Having both schools at one location allows our parents to drop off their children in the morning and know that they’ll be well looked after for the entire day if they desire. Children who do chose to stay for the entire day have access to the sports area, the upstairs restaurant, a sleeping room, pre paid Khmer style lunches, TV’s, the internet, the library, as well as some teachers, whom also stay for the entire day. Staff, and guards are maintained throughout the entire day, so as the child’s safety is kept as a priority.
In August of 2008 we started a new and exciting chapter in the young life of MIS, as we sent 3 students to Australia for a 3 week educational adventure. They were able to take in an AFL match in Melbourne, visit a sheep shearing station, and play in the snow for the first time. They were able to use their English skills throughout their journey, and came away from the experience with many new found friends and an enlightened insight to a different culture. Starting in 2009 we will be sending 2 lucky students to Auckland, New Zealand for a 3 week intensive English course. Unique New Zealand is a world renowned ESL school, teaching students from Japan, Brazil, Europe, and many other countries around the planet, all in a relaxed beach front surrounding. This will allow our students to exercise the skills they’ve learned here in a global theatre.
MIS is a young, energetic and growing institution. We see a very bright future for Cambodia, and it’s people. We are firm believer’s that education is one of the most important steps in this growth process, and are committed to the parents and children to help make this happen. To the families who are already part of the MIS experience, we appreciate your support and look forward to a long and pleasant journey as your children grow with us. For those of you who have chosen other routes so far, we welcome any and all of you, as we feel that MIS offers much, much more than any other institute in Phnom Penh.
